Alligator clips can be found at beauty supply stores. They come in single prong and double prong styles. The double prong ones are fine for larger bows, but the single prong clips are easier to work between the bow and cord - especially on smaller bows. Alligator clips stay in better than barrettes in fine hair. 

Barrettes: If you use French clip barrettes instead of alligator clips, you will not be able to put the barrette between the bow and the cord. Remove the spring in the center of the barrette. Glue the bow on top of the barrette, and the center ribbon around it. Replace the spring. 

Velcro is a great way to attach bows to that very fine, almost-not-there infant hair. You can buy Velcro in strips in any craft store. Just use a small square, use a couple of thread stitches to attach one side to the back of your bow, and then merely place the other Velcro strip in place with some of Baby's hair in between. 

Some people prefer to skip the hot glue gun and use an industrial adhesive called E6000. It dries more like rubber and holds well. Make sure to let it set for about 24 hours, though.

Fray Check can be purchased in the fabric/craft department of most superstores or at any fabric store. A little bit does the trick. Clear nail polish can also be used to seal ribbon ends and keep them from fraying.

Heat sealing is another method you can use to finish your ribbon ends. Use a candle, match, or lighter and hold the flame close to the ribbon end to achieve an evenly fused end. Do not actually touch the flame to the material. Many people have also found much success using a wood-burning tool to seal ends. In this case, you could lay the ribbon flat on a heat-resistant surface, use a metal ruler to mark your line and run the tip of the tool against the ruler edge.

Fabric stiffener can be a handy tool. Some people choose to stuff the loops of their finished bows with tissue paper, spray the bows with fabric stiffener and then remove the tissue paper after the bow is fully dry.

For fine hair you can line alligator clips or barrettes with a small strip of shelf liner. Use the foam rubber, padded looking type. Or, line with velvet-like ribbon or material pieces (3/8"). I have also been informed that inserted a very thin magnet strip to one side of the clip underneath the velvet will help it stay tight as well. (Thank You, Melissa!)

Lace Headbands are not the heavily guarded secret some instruction sellers might lead you to believe. They might just be the most simple thing you attempt in this whole bow making craze! At any fabric store, simply go tot he lace-by-the-yard section and find the elastic lace. You can choose any width you like, there are no hard, fast rules. To assemble, measure the length that will work for your little bow model and simply whipstitch the ends together. Yes, it really IS that easy!
